Prisencolinensinainciusol (video)
Have you found yourself on a bus or train, wondering what foreigners are saying? Or sitting in a nail salon, contemplating whether or not the women could be talking about you and the foul condition you walked in with?
What if we switched these scenarios? What if I asked you- what foreigners think of us when hearing spoken english?
“Prisencolinensinainciusol” is an Italian song created to reveal a question many individuals hold: how does English sound to non-English speakers?
It’s Gibberish. All of it. Gibberish and brilliant.
I was introduced to this song ages ago and since then, I have not been able to get over how entertaining it is. I’ve caught myself trying to distinguish words from what the artist was saying but of course, it’s been impossible. “Prisencolinensinainciusol” puts language and foreign barriers into perspective; the video was made in a way that shows American culture is not only processed in an auditory manner, but kinesthetically as well.
Fun Fact: Celantano studied phonetics theory to compose this.
